THE MULTIVERSE ===> h a r r y p o t t e r [[ wands ]]

Wand Length
Length default dependent on physical height, however longer wands tend to be more attracted to bigger personalities, and shorter wands to personalities that are lacking in character.

Extremely short wands: 8 inches and under (super lacking in character)
Extremely long wands: 15 inches and up (demanded by physical peculiarity)

Wand Flexibility
Reflects adaptability and willingness to change of the owner. However, with the other factors of wand wood, length, and core taken into consideration, the flexibility is "not to be considered separately."

Known Flexibilities (not in order)
    unyielding
    rigid
    quite flexible
    reasonably supple
    hard
    surprisingly swishy
    slightly springy
    quite bendy
    slightly yielding
    unbending

Wand Cores
Ollivander's uses high-quality, expensive, and rare wand cores. These wand cores are Unicorn Hair, Dragon Heartstring, and Phoenix Feather. There are many other wand makers in the wizardry world, and no one has the same style of making their wands. For example, a core material that is used but considered substandard is kelpie hair, the properties of which are unknown but apparently unfavorable. It is thus entirely possible to have a wand of a different core than the three Ollivander considers to be the Supreme Cores.

Unicorn Hair
    produces most consistent magic
least subject to fluctuations and blockages
most difficult to turn to Dark Arts
most faithful, strongly attached to first owner no matter their success
    do not make powerful wands
        (wand would may compensate, however)
prone to melancholy, may "die" and need to be replaced

Dragon Heartstring
    produces wands with most power
    capable of most flamboyant spells
    learn more quickly than others
can change allegiance if won from owner
always bonds stronger with current owner
easiest to turn to Dark Arts
most prone to accidents, as it's somewhat tempermental

Phoenix Feather
    rarest core type
greatest range of magic, may take longer to reveal this
show most initiative, sometimes acts on own accord
not all witches and wizards like this
    always the pickiest
    hardest to tame and personalize
    allegiance is hard to win

Wand Woods
Ollivander, over his long career of wandmaking, has compiled notes on the different types of wood that are capable of being used for making wands, as only a minority of trees are capable of doing so. He believes, and it may be unique to him, that wand woods have near-human capabilities of perception and ability to determine preferences. They continue to be similar to humans, as only a small portion of them are magical and only a small number of trees can produce wand-quality wood. Wood type is a starting point for wand study, and has been listed here last purely because the list of minority trees is actually exhausting in its length.

Acacia

THE MULTIVERSE ===> m y l i t t l e p o n y

Earth
Earth Ponies are more versatile with using their bodies as they are, and are thus more adept to field work and physical labor. They are more likely to be fit and on the muscular side of athletic, and more likely to appreciate good old-fashioned hard work. Ponyville is very much a perfect home for the more rustic Earth Ponies. In the past, they were the sole source of food for all ponies, and were all farmers and gatherers.

Pegasus
Pegasus Ponies are usually in charge of the weather. They typically hail from Cloudsdale, a place in the sky made entirely of clouds that is only able to be walked on by Pegasi. They are more laid-back and adventurous, since they represent a freedom of both the earth and the skies. Pegasi are known for being heroic, and are the ponies more competitions and races are built around. In the past, they were the warriors of the pony world.

Unicorn
Unicorn Ponies are the more frivolous of the ponies, and most would reside in Canterlot. They can learn magic, and thus the world is more open to them to do anything they wish without lifting a hoof. Not all Unicorns use this to advantage their laziness or snootiness, and they are the most versatile in various skills that no other pony could do because of their lack of magical ability. Typically, they are more artsy than other ponies. IN the past, they were the rich nobility of ponies.

Alicorn
Alicorn Ponies have both Pegasus wings and Unicorn horns, allowing them the worlds of flight and magic. They are very rare, and are always royalty. Whether all Alicorns are female or not isn't clear. Alicorns are born and raised like every other pony, it seems, as no other insight to how they're brought up is known. It is possible that each Alicorn has her own set of unique, otherworldly powers that are related to their Cutie Mark and enhanced by their Alicorn birth. They solely reside in Canterlot, it seems. In the past, it is unknown how pertinent in olden pony life was, but they are so godlike that they can become the basis of legend and folklore.

Despite all the differences different ponies have, they currently live in peace and mingled without discrimination. Everypony has their place in life, and they will always have friends to help them through the tough times. Equestria is built on small businesses, and mass-production is still relatively alien to them. They have trains and station wagons as long-distance travel means.

Cutie Marks
Cutie Marks are marks that appear on a pony's flank when their true talent is discovered. A pony could have an idea of what their destined mark is, or be completely surprised. Some are more obvious than others (apples v. sparkle), but they are all representative of the thing that makes a pony special. A cutie mark is not necessarily what a pony does as a hobby, or what they love most, but they can often be related (Rarity's special talent is seeking gems, but her life's passion is fashion design). Cutie marks often appear when ponies are foal-aged, and not all ponies get their cutie marks at the same time. Like their talent, a cutie mark's appearance is special and unique to them, and will only appear when the hidden talent is fully realized, either through accident, self-realization, awakened powers, or anything else to trigger its use and meaning.
